Each year, more than 500 volunteers help enrich the lives of our residents by participating in a wide array of activities. Our recreation therapists create fun and engaging programs that can be adjusted for each level of cognitive ability. They also work with our Director of Volunteers and our Auxiliary to match our dedicated volunteers with opportunities to help bring laughter and smiles every day.

Calendars for the Aviv Rehabilitation Center are distributed weekly to residents and posted on the fifth floor of The Home.

Here is just a sample of the many activities our residents participate in each month with the help of our enthusiastic and diverse cadre of volunteers. Click here to learn more about volunteering at The Home.

Work with our residents as they create masterpieces by painting, drawing and working with ceramics.

Assist with recreational activities for our residents, including music, dance, exercise, sports, games, entertainment, discussion groups or crafts.

Friendly Visitors or Adopt a Grandparent

Play checkers, chess, Scrabble and other games such as bridge, gin rummy or mah jongg.

Gift Shop

Volunteer in our Jean A. Cohen Gift Shop by assisting residents, family members and staff with their purchases in this fun and friendly environment.

Fall Funstival and Senior Olympics

Help residents participate in games and festivities, or help serve the picnic lunch in our garden during two of our most popular annual activities.

Holiday Celebrations

Help us celebrate everything from New Years to Cinco de Mayo. We make every holiday a festive occasion with delicious foods, engaging music and cheerful volunteers.

Jewish Cultural Celebrations

Help us crown the Purim King and Queen, light the menorah, participate in our Seder and create other special moments throughout the year during Jewish holidays.

Clean, file and polish residents’ nails while making friendly conversations during this favorite weekly activity.

Monthly Birthday Party

Socialize while serving birthday cake and other refreshments as we celebrate with residents and families.

Music & Cocktails

Enjoy the merriment with residents with live music and refreshments each week. Families are welcome.

Help our recreational therapists prepare to take residents on shopping trips, luncheons and visits around town.

Performances by school and civic groups

Entertain our residents by bringing in your choir, dance troupe, scouts or school group to sing, perform or help lead a game or activity.

Playgroup With a Purpose

Interested in taking your baby to meet new friends, both old and young? This group entertains children, volunteers and residents alike–a fun time for all!

Help our residents celebrate the Sabbath by bringing in your group to lead the blessings, help serve, sing or entertain.

Partake in this favorite resident activity by helping present stimulating programs on films and  celebrities while encouraging residents to talk about their own memories.

Special Projects, Cultural Arts or Create Your Own

Do you have a special talent or creative skill you would like to share with our residents? We’re always seeking singers, dancers, musicians, storytellers as well as a variety of other performers or speakers to entertain our residents or share pictures from recent travels.

Tea Time

Join this lively social hour by helping serve coffee, tea and snacks to residents.

Yiddish (or Other Foreign Language) Speakers

Do you speak a bissel of Yiddish? A bit of Russian or Hebrew? Come kibbitz with our residents who’d enjoy a conversation in their native (or secondary) tongue.
