The William Breman Jewish Home has meaningful ways in which you can participate in our ever-expanding volunteer activities. Volunteering allows you to support The Home and enrich the lives of our residents. Activity Assistant
Help run an activity session for our residents such as art, exercise, games and reading. (Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)
Adopt a Grandparent
Parents and their children together, befriend a senior and do activities such as reading, art, storytelling or crafts. Magic moments are created in this one-on-one quality time. (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends)
Art Therapy
Work with our residents during art classes as they create masterpieces. Our art classes include painting, drawing and ceramics. (Mondays at 3:00 p.m.)
Bingo
Bingo is one of our most popular activities. Join in the fun and become a bingo caller or assist residents with their Bingo cards. (Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.)
Challah Baking
Help our residents braid the traditional Jewish bread. Enjoy the delicious aromas and friendly conversation. (Fridays at 2:30 p.m.)
Computer Advisors
Assist residents with receiving and answering their email messages. We are also looking for volunteers to help with Skype. (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends)
Cookie Baking
Cooking baking is a special time on Tuesday mornings at The Home. You get to bake, socialize and enjoy the scrumptious cookies along with delicious conversations had by all. (Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.)
Friendly Visitor
Become a friend to an elderly resident. Spend time visiting, reading, playing games, writing emails or taking strolls together in our garden. (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends)
Games
Play Checkers, Chess, Scrabble and other board games with residents, as well as other games such as Bridge, Gin Rummy or Mah Jongg. (Flexible Hours)
Gift Shop
Volunteer in our beautiful Jean A. Cohen Gift Shop. Assist residents, family members and staff with their purchases in this fun and friendly environment. (Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
Manicurists
Clean, file and polish residents’ nails while making friendly conversations. (Monday afternoons, Wednesday mornings)
Monthly Birthday Party
Socialize and serve refreshments, including birthday cake. This is a wonderful family volunteer opportunity as well. (Last Tuesday of the month at 3:00 p.m.)
Music & Cocktails
Enjoy festive entertainment with residents, socialize and serve refreshments. Families are welcome. (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m.)
Outings Escort
Escort residents on planned shopping trips, luncheons and visits around town. Transportation is provided by The William Breman Jewish Home. (Schedules vary)
Playgroup With a Purpose
Interested in having you and your baby meet new friends, both old and young? Come join this playtime group that entertains children, volunteers and residents alike. A fun time for all! (Twice a month, rotates between Fridays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m.)
Recreational Activities
Assist with or run recreational activities for our residents, including programs in music, dance, exercise, sports, games, entertainment, discussion groups or crafts. (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends)
Shabbat Service
Help our residents welcome the Sabbath, escorting them to services, assisting during the service and during Oneg. (Fridays at 4:00 p.m., Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Zaban Tower Chapel)
Showtime
Partake in this fabulous volunteer program, a favorite of our residents, by presenting stimulating programs on film, celebrities and events while encouraging residents to talk about their memories. (Third Tuesday of the month, 11:00 a.m.)
Special Projects, Cultural Arts or Create Your Own
Do you have a special talent or creative skill you would like to share with our residents? We are always seeking singers, dancers, musicians, storytellers as well as a variety of activities that will entertain our residents. Or perhaps you want to share your pictures from your recent travels. (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends)
A Taste of Shabbat
Help lead an interactive Sabbath experience through songs and prayers. The program includes an Oneg and sing-a-long. (Every other Saturday afternoon, 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
Tea Time
Join this lively volunteer activity by helping to serve coffee, tea and snacks to residents while all enjoy the entertainment. (Wednesdays, 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
Yiddish Speakers
Do you speak a bissel of Yiddish? A bit of Russian or Hebrew? Come kibbitz with our residents who’d enjoy a conversation in their mother tongue. (Arrange a mutually convenient time.)
